Where I Sew

This spring we moved to a new house. My husband worked very hard to complete my new sewing room just the way I want it. Most of the furniture, walls, blinds, etc. are white. That lets the fabric, thread, yarn, and projects add most of the color. I love it!

He installed cabinets and two permanent tables for my machines. I have lots of wonderful light, too! In fact, we've laughed about how bright it is, but working in it is a dream!

I have lots of these rolling drawers under each table to store patterns, interfacing, and office supplies. I love them because I can move them easily and I've organized my patterns by project type.

I have an ironing station here. All my sprays and supplies are in the short cabinet above.

We bought this kitchen island to be my cutting table. It has an extension that can fold up which makes it perfect for wider fabrics, plus it's more storage.

I even have room to display some of my collectibles. These are yard sale finds. There's some knitting, too. I keep my shawls on the dressmaker's doll.

My room is the best sewing room I've ever had!

Socks!

Yesterday I finished the brightly colored socks that I've been working on. We were at the lake, but I immediately cast on a darker, more fall-colored pair. I'm doing something brand new for me: I'm making my own pattern. So far, I cast on 64 stitches. Then I did 12 rounds of k3, p1. Now I'm doing a four row pattern:
  1. k3, p1 around
  2. k around
  3. repeat row 1
  4. p around
After doing about 6 repeats of this, it seemed like I needed to make my sock a little smaller for the ankle, so I've decreased 4 stitches on round 2 of the sixth repeat which takes me down to 60 stitches. I plan to do that again on the eighth repeat, leaving 56 stitches. I'm pretty sure I'll use that number all the way through the foot.

Welcome!

Here's our spot to share our knitting. Let's post pictures and ideas as well as tips.

You can find lots of knitting help here:

Besides my sock, I'm working on two projects: a Fairisle vest and a Gemma cardigan.

Tomorrow I'll put up some photos from our Tuesday meetings.
